  1. Hire only licensed contractors.
  2. Get more than one estimates.
  3. Check each estimate to see if they covered all items you wanted addressed. Be sure every thing is covered clearly so there will be no misunderstanding later.
  4. Click on this link contractors board to check on the status of their license, or call 486-1100, its a free service. Some trades only require a business license, contact your local business license office.
  5. Ask for references.
  6. Check to see if they arrive on time and are clean and neat. It does make a difference.
  7. When you hire a licensed contractor you have the protection of the Nevada State Contractors Board. The board requires contractors to be licensed and bonded. The board will investigate all complaints lodged against a contractor. In addition will let you know if there has been any complaints in their history. You have no such protection against UN licensed contractors.
When do you realize you hired the wrong contractor?
  1. Contractor is not licensed by the Nevada State Contractors board 486-1100
  2. Late for the estimate appointment and does not call too let you know.
  3. Ask for 30% deposit for materials on a job that may only takes two to three days to complete.
  4. Charges for extras you did not authorize.
  5. Late on the first day of the job.
  6. Leaves the job early most days.
  7. Once your job has started the men disappears for one or two days. (Has great excuse).
  8. Makes a mess during the job and leaves a mess when they leave for the day, but promises to clean up before the job is done.
  9. Does not cover, or partially covers your furniture and other belongings while painting.
  10. Borrows a tool or latter from you.
  11. You feel very uncomfortable having them in your home.
  12. Seems to be no one in charge.
  13. Does not seem Too know exactly what is to be done.
  14. Smokes in your house or is constantly taking smoke breaks.
  15. Tramples your flowers or shrubs while working outside.
  16. Your unhappy with the job.
  17. You get that sick feeling inside, deep down.
When do you know you hired the right contractor for your job?
  1. When none of the above applies.
